Blue Ocean Closures is teaming up with Swed-jam and the Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE) to explore the production of bio-based fibre lids for jams and preserves to reduce the environmental impact of metal screw lids. Funded by Vinnova’s BioInnovation strategic innovation programme, the project is set to research and develop bio-based substitutes for existing lid materials, with various product types currently lacking alternatives to metal screw lids.
Despite the premiumisation underway in sweet spreads, PET bottles are expected to gain pack type share over in the forecast period. PET bottles are squeezable and feature convenient closures, allowing for easier dispensing of the product, whether it be honey or jams and preserves.
