There is a growing push by the French agriculture minister for farmers to aim for a higher production of vegetables in France – according to reports, currently around two-thirds of canned and frozen vegetables are imported, and the aim is to return to around 50%, which was a figure last seen in 2010. However, growing numbers of French vegetables producers are deciding to focus on growing cereals, as yields are more reliable and less susceptible to weather damage.
New laws are set to come into force at the end of December 2023, for dealing with organic waste. Already, in January 2023, companies and restaurants who produce more than five tonnes of bio waste have been organising the sorting of this at source, as previously only required by organisations making more than ten tonnes of bio waste.
