Outdoor footwear’s value sales growth (at constant 2023 prices) is expected to gradually slow over the forecast period, as demand for new footwear was largely fulfilled towards the end of the review period. Outdoor footwear tends to have a longer replacement cycle compared to other types of shoes and apparel.
For non-sports footwear, local producers have been posting sluggish sales as they are losing shelf space to imported options from international brands. Local brands are still present in department stores, but their shelf space is shrinking.
South Korea’s leading resell marketplaces are losing momentum. Up until 2022, the resell market was growing rapidly as the “open run” phenomenon - South Koreans’ dash to a store as soon as it opens or waiting in a long queue until the store opens to buy rare items such as Jordan Luka2 or adidas Samba - increased the value of limited edition items and helped those sold at high premium prices.
