During the review period, the Ministry of Tourism announced a significant increase in entrance fees to the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador's primary tourist destination. For international travellers, the entry fee has doubled from USD100 to USD200, and the fee for Mercosur members has increased from USD50 to USD100.
Tourism insecurity has significantly impacted tourist flows in 2023 and 2024, but this factor is expected to gradually decrease in 2025 due to the implementation of the Fénix Plan by the Ecuadorian Government, which started to deliver results in the second half of 2024. With military support, the Fénix Plan is anticipated to lower insecurity and should aid in the recovery of tourist flows in the upcoming period.
