Legislation necessitating front labelling for some packaged food and beverages was introduced in Argentina in September 2022. These new labels highlight levels of sodium, fat and sugar in processed foods and drinks.
As a result of the gin and tonic boom, which has seen a steep increase in sales of tonic water/mixers/other bitters carbonates, Schweppes and Paso de los Toros tonic brands are forecast to grow further over the next five years. Premium offerings such as imported tonic brands Britvic and Fever-Tree, as well as local craft tonic brands such as Santa Quina, and Hinks & Sons, are projected to rise persistently in beverage specialist shops, bars and restaurants.
Smaller players in carbonates are anticipated to post a positive performance across the forecast period, benefitting from reduced disposable income among local consumers boosting sales of lower-cost options. In response, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo will adapt their offerings by increasing investments in favourably-priced family packs, as well as enlarging their advertising budgets for reduced sugar carbonates.
