In the coming years, the soft drinks industry in Germany is expected to witness increased competition between various categories. One already prominent trend is the shift towards still beverages or lightly carbonated soft drinks, such as still bottled water and ready-to-drink (RTD) tea, which are gaining popularity, particularly amongst younger generations.
Taste remains a paramount factor in consumers’ beverage choices. Nevertheless, whilst promotions, trendy flavours, and other factors also play a role in the purchasing decision, a growing emphasis is being placed on the authenticity and corporate social responsibility of the brand behind the product.
The demand for healthy products is both a challenge and an opportunity. As most carbonates contain a lot of sugar, these drinks continue to be considered a rather unhealthy form of refreshment, which should be consumed carefully.
