In the forecast period, sparkling flavoured bottled water is expected to benefit from the strengthening health and wellness trend. Sparkling flavoured bottled water and carbonates share certain similarities, as both are beverages that have been infused with carbon dioxide to create effervescence or bubbles.
Sustainability initiatives within bottled water range across producer-led, and country-led regulations. In terms of regulations, at the end of 2023, Sentosa Island, one of the top tourist spots in Singapore, is set to phase out single-use plastics, which includes the majority of bottled water products.
A narrowing of the distinction between sparkling flavoured bottled water and juice drinks (up to 24% juice content) is expected, as consumers look for cleaner ingredients and natural sources of flavour in their flavoured bottled water. Although there were no significant new launches in 2023, previous developments by leading players in bottled water highlight the gradual movement towards and increased emphasis on using natural ingredients in formulations.

Bottled Water
This category is the aggregation of still bottled water (spring, mineral & purified), carbonated bottled water (spring, mineral & purified), flavoured bottled water and functional bottled water. Bulk bottled water is split out separately. It is defined as packaged drinking water – purified, spring or mineral – that is packaged in a container of 8 litres or larger. The bulk bottled water data types apply to Still Bottled Water and Carbonated Bottled Water but do not apply to functional or flavoured bottled water. Bulk water is classified according to the new Bulk retail volume and Bulk retail value data type regardless of channel of sale: bulk water sold via retail locations and bulk water delivered direct to a consumer’s home is included. Bulk water sold to institutions (offices, schools etc.) remains excluded.
