Dietary supplements is expected to see moderate growth in value terms (at constant 2024 prices) with the Tariff Regulation Authority not having any control over pricing, thereby presenting players with opportunities to increase their margins. However, registering dietary supplements in Azerbaijan has now become as complicated a process as getting a new medicine to market.
Although dietary supplements are not subject to price controls in Azerbaijan it is nonetheless expected that prices will remain relatively stable. With the country’s economy remaining under a cloud it is likely that consumers will remain price sensitive and therefore any significant price increases could push consumers away from dietary supplements and towards conventional prescription and OTC medicines.
New regulations and the challenging economy could persuade some local producers of dietary supplements to close, or to switch to producing other more profitable consumer health products. Local producers are already facing stiff competition from affordable brands of dietary supplements that have been imported from Turkey and with the government’s new regulations likely to increase their costs their businesses may no longer be sustainable.
