Over the forecast period, e-commerce is set to continue to perform well and capture consumer preferences. It will remain a key channel for many Chileans, and is predicted to represent 17% value share of overall retail sales (at constant 2023 prices) by 2028.
Loyalty programmes are set to gain further importance for local consumers looking to obtain greater value from their spending. According to Euromonitor International’s Voice of the Consumer: Digital Consumer Survey (fielded March to April 2023), 61% of Chilean digital consumers participate in loyalty programmes to receive discounts or offers, and 51% mention that offers or gifts just for being a customer is the most important strategy that a company can adopt to help build loyalty.
Marketplaces are set to remain as one of the main growth drivers for e-commerce in Chile over the forecast period, with players in the channel including an increasingly expansive array of products and financing options. Leaders in this space, particularly MercadoLibre Marketplace, are among the innovators in terms of formats and technology, and are best positioned to find new gaps to explore and fill in the e-commerce environment in Chile.
