E-commerce is set to continue to gain ground across the forecast period, with more and more consumers using the channel to find and buy the products they need. If the omnichannel strategies put in motion by retailers turn out to be effective, e-commerce is expected to represent 8% of all sales in 2027, up from 6% in 2022.
Mercado Libre continues to drive sales through mobile e-commerce with its app, as customers can perform the same operations that they can through a computer. The player offers small retailers solutions for selling their products online via Mercado Libre’s mobile-friendly platform and makes it easier for shoppers to pay for their purchases online - including through its own payment wallet, MercadoPago.
Third-party delivery apps are an important intermediary for businesses that do not have their own e-commerce infrastructure, and many retailers, such as convenience stores and pharmacies now offer delivery through these platforms. However, the bigger retailers are taking steps to provide their own proprietary infrastructure.
