The market for beer in Slovakia is expected to see a stronger performance in total volume terms over the forecast period, as inflationary pressures begin to ease and households regain their purchasing power. Moreover, while the newly elected government of 2023 has announced it will be increasing excise taxes on alcoholic drinks in 2024, beer will be exempt from this new regime.
Demand for non-alcoholic beer is expected to remain strong over the forecast period, due to the continued emphasis on responsible drinking and strict drink driving policies. Innovation will also play a role in driving growth, with new players such as Mattoni (a major soft drinks player) and Kofla, having entered the competitive arena in recent years.
Eco-friendly packaging solutions are expected to gain prominence across the industry, as brewers seek to comply with EU policies. For example, the introduction of refundable deposits for aluminium cans has created an incentive for consumers to return their containers, which in turn, will allow players to use a greater content of recycled materials in new cans across their portfolios.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
