Despite the expectation of current value growth in the forecast period, bleach is predicted to turn to minor retail volume decline. Bleach will continue to offer affordability and accessibility to lower-income or price-sensitive consumers who value the multifunctionality that it offers in the home for both cleaning and sanitising, and sales will remain significant.
Manufacturers of bleach are well aware of the increasing competition from alternative surface care products, with some of them even producing the latter themselves. One of the major disadvantages of bleach is its pungent aroma and the danger of damaging items during spillages.
Although retail channels such as supermarkets, hypermarkets, discounters, and small local grocers are the most important in bleach, other channels have been strengthening, such as pharmacies and convenience stores, which offer cleaning products that satisfy the need for immediacy amongst “frequent purchase – small outlay” buyers. Meanwhile, due to this same trend, retail e-commerce, which saw growth in distribution share during COVID-19, has been seeing declines in its share, and this is likely to continue.
